Shillong, Dec 22: Cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai inaugurated a renovated basketball court at Rilang Children’s Home in Nongthymmai today.
Interacting with the children and staff, Shullai said the residents of the home should be seen as part of a larger family rather than being defined by labels. He assured the children that they could reach out to him whenever they required assistance.
He said the decision to renovate the court was taken after he visited the home in July, when he noticed the need for better recreational facilities alongside education. The minister said he was satisfied that the work had been completed within the set timeline. Shullai had sanctioned an amount of Rs 7 lakh for the children’s home.
Speaking on the occasion, Shullai referred to the message of Christmas and spoke about unity, forgiveness and the need for self-correction. He said public representatives must continue to identify gaps in their work and try to address them.
The minister also highlighted the importance of peaceful coexistence among different communities, including in Laban and surrounding areas, and encouraged people to maintain faith and gratitude in daily life.
