Shillong, Dec 19: With the onset of the festive season, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) have announced a series of measures to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow.
In anticipation of heavy traffic congestion near markets, shopping areas, places of worship and event venues, citizens are encouraged to use public transport and to avoid peak hours and allow extra travel time, avoid roadside parking and to park only in designated parking areas.
Pedestrians are advised to avoid jaywalking and use footpaths and designated crossings (Zebra Crossings).
Motorists are also urged to give right of way at all times to emergency vehicles.
The Shillong Traffic Police have also warned against drunken driving, over-speeding and driving without seatbelts on. Two wheeler riders have also been asked to ensure wearing helmets.
Vigorous checking for MV Act violations have been planned and motorists are directed to adhere to the traffic rules and regulations.
