Shillong, Dec 19: Traditional heads of Hima Sohra have urged the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to speed up appointment of a new Syiem (chief).
The post remained vacant after the demise of Freeman Sing Syiem.
Representatives of the Hima today met KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tony Winston Lyngdoh and the Executive member (EM) in-charge Elaka, Denzil R Chen on the matter.
Executive Member of Dorbar Shnong Pdengshong, Sohra Hima, Wellborn Bynnud told reporters that the CEM and the Executive Member have promised to expedite the work and are examining the rules.
He said that the village chiefs of the Hima need Sanad from the Syiem to run the village affairs. While some of them have ended their terms that require elections to be conducted, this requires an authorisation from the Syiem.
He said that the village chiefs of the Sohra Hima are waiting for the KHADC to complete this task as soon as possible in order to facilitate the working of the Hima.
