Shillong, Dec 18: One person received minor injuries and a water tanker was damaged in an IED blast in East Jaintia Hills district on Monday night for which the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has claimed responsibility.
The blast was triggered at the Dhar Company in Shymplong village in Narpuh, East Jaintia Hills.
Police said that three persons have been picked up for their alleged involvement in the blast.
“The water tanker was damaged and the driver was slightly injured,” a senior police officer said.
The police have registered a case under the Terrorist Act, under section 113 BNS. Other charges were also filed under various sections of BNS and the Explosive Substances Act.
Police informed that as per their preliminary investigation the IED was made with commercial grade gelatine.
“We are however waiting for the forensic report to get more details about the explosive used,” police sources said.
Meanwhile, the proscribed HNLC has claimed responsibility for the blast.
It warned that disobeying the HNLC would result in “severe consequences”.
