Shillong, Dec 15: The Khasi-Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) on Monday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma urging him to enhance dearness allowance at par with government servants and release of arrears.
In the memorandum, the KJDSTA stated that if this “legitimate” demand is not fulfilled on or before January 15 the association will resort to democratic protests and agitations.
KJDSTA president Boswell Pala stated in the memo that, as per the prevailing rates, deficit teachers are entitled to 51 percent DA yet the DA continues to remain stagnant at 43 percent
“Despite repeated representations and written submissions, including to your esteemed office, no concrete action has been taken so far. This inordinate delay has resulted in severe financial hardship and mental anguish for thousands of deficit teachers,” the KJDSTA said.
The association also urged the government to expedite the complete implementation of the Centralised Provident Fund system, intervene for the immediate release of death-cum-retirement gratuity (DCRG) to retired deficit teachers and to ensure the MEGH-SIMS portal is error-free, now and in the future.
The association also asked the government to expedite the process of filling vacant deficit posts in various schools across the state, ensure payment of Winter Allowance, and other admissible allowances and to guarantee regular and timely payment of salaries to all deficit teachers.
Earlier in the day, the KJDSTA organised a rally at the Malki Ground.
Speaking at the rally, Pala said that the association tried to meet the CM and sought appointment and it has been 20 days since but he has not met them. “He has time and interest to meet people but he cannot meet us,” the KJDSTA president said.
