Shillong, Dec 13: Voice of the People Party (VPP) President and Nongkrem MLA, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has criticised the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government for already being in election mode.
The State Assembly goes to polls only in 2028.
He said the government’s attention to constituency-centric initiatives appears to be more about securing votes than about genuine development.
The VPP chief said that the Chief Minister who should be in his office is busy visiting constituencies and promoting candidates of his party for the 2028 polls.
“As a party, many times we tried to meet him to give our petitions but every time we had to hand them to the personnel in the office of the Chief Minister,” he said.
The VPP chief said that this shows the government is scared of the party.
“This shows that the people will show them the door and they will have to vacate from their present position,” he added.
Basaiawmoit also said that the NPP as a party is going around stating that the VPP primarily represents Christian. He defended the claims stating that the party is committed to inclusivity.
He said that the VPP is trying to instill the feeling of oneness among the people of the state by doing away with divisions of regionalism, congregations among other issues.
“But they are going around creating divisions and causing chaos in the minds of the people,” the VPP chief said.
