Shillong, Dec 2: Amid growing speculations that former cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh would exit the UDP in favour of the National People’s Party (NPP), Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said it is “premature”.
“We are good friends, we have always discussed politics together… but to jump to a conclusion that he will be joining is a bit premature right now. It’s not the appropriate time to discuss all of these things.”
Sangma said he shared a long-standing political relationship with Paul and acknowledged that political discussions between them have always been ongoing.
The Chief Minister further said that party-switching is a natural part of politics.
“Leaving and joining — this happens in politics. There’s a lot of talk, discussions that take place, but at the end of the day, let’s see how things unfold. And when the final time comes, we’ll let you know,” he added.
