Shillong, Nov 20: The Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the India AI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology will organised a regional AI impact conference on December 3.
The conference is part of a national series leading to the India – AI Impact Summit 2026. Themed, “AI for CE (Artificial Intelligence for Citizens’ Empowerment): Smarter Governance, Better Lives,” the event will bring together senior government officials, industry leaders, global technology firms, academic institutions and startups to deliberate on the transformative role of AI in climate resilience, effective governance, and building safer and more equitable societies.
During the conference, a session by the IndiaAI Mission team will showcase various AI-related initiatives taken by the Government of India and stakeholders to showcase AI initiatives and innovations, ideation and brainstorming sessions, and networking among like-minded individuals/organisations.
The conference will also witness the ceremonial launches of Bhashini Hackathon (Garo & Khasi language), the launch of MeghDEE program, the signing of MoU for setting up Data & AI Lab, and the Signing of MoU with MATH T-Hub.
Union Minister of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and senior officers from Central Ministries and North Eastern states are expected to join this mega event.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who also heads the Information Technology & Communications Department, is set to make major policy announcements during the conference projecting Meghalaya as the AI regional trailblazer and powerhouse of technology-driven innovations.
The conference will also feature a roundtable meeting between the Chief Minister and leading investors, aimed at positioning Meghalaya as an emerging digital and innovation hub for Eastern India.
An Exhibition to showcase and display various AI and related Emerging Technology Initiatives by various government organisations, industry partners and research and academic institutions have also been planned.
As run-up to the event, a pre-event campaign through academic institutions like IIM Shillong, NIT Meghalaya and NIELIT, Shillong have commenced to create awareness on AI among the student community and create a buzz around the Regional event at Shillong”, Commissioner & Secretary Pravin Bakshi said.
