      Shillong, Nov 19:  Krishi Vigyan Kendras across Meghalaya today took part in the launch of the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

      The event, telecasted live from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, was broadcasted across the country, enabling farmers from diverse regions to witness the landmark event in real time.

      Under this instalment, nearly 9 crore farmers across the country will receive approximately Rs 18,000 crore in direct financial assistance through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

      The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana, which was launched by the centre on February 24, 2019, provides annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000 per eligible farmer family.

      According to a press release, , more than Rs 3.70 lakh crore has already been disbursed to over 11 crore farmer families under this scheme. The funds have helped farmers to buy farm inputs besides catering to other expenses such as education, medical and marriage.

      Benefits of the scheme are being provided to those farmers whose land details are seeded on the PM-KISAN portal, and also bank accounts with Aadhaar.

      Once released, farmers can easily track whether their 21st installment has been credited using the official portal.

      In West Khasi Hills, the launch was attended by Mawthadraishan MLA Shakliar Warjri, along with ADOs, HDOs of the district. During the programme lectures PM Kisan Scheme, Natural Farming was delivered followed by a farmer-scientist interaction.

      ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri Bhoi, in collaboration with the District Agriculture Office, Ri Bhoi, organized the live-streaming of the “Release of the 21st Installment of the PM-KISAN Scheme by the Honourable Prime Minister” on 19 November 2025. The national programme, held at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, was broadcasted across the country, enabling farmers from diverse regions to witness the landmark event in real time.

      In West Jaintia Hills, three technical sessions were held for farmers on natural farming and preparation of bio-inputs. A session was also held on the role of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in improving farmers’ income

      Nartiang-Wahiajer MDC Reformingson Lamare who addressed the gathering, acknowledged the efforts of KVK in supporting farmers and urged the farming community to make full use of schemes such as PM Kisan for improving productivity and income.

      In Ri Bhoi, the event saw participation from 154 farmers from different villages across the district. Officials from ICAR, KVK Ri Bhoi, and the District Agriculture Office highlighted the significance of PM-KISAN in addressing income gaps, promoting sustainable agriculture, and supporting farmers’ livelihoods. They also briefed the participants on various complementary schemes and programmes that could help enhance productivity and ensure long-term resilience.

      An input distribution session was conducted wherein the participating farmers were distributed vegetable seeds.

      In West Garo, the programme opened with an overview of the PM-KISAN scheme, after which the inaugural ceremony and major sessions from the national venue were streamed live.

      In addition, KVK subject matter specialists conducted technical sessions covering soil health management, nutrient-efficient farming, and improved horticultural crop practices. Special emphasis was placed on climate-resilient agriculture, the scientific use of inputs, and sustainable crop production methods to promote practical adoption at the field level.

      In South Garo Hills, the programme highlighted important updates related to the scheme, including eligibility criteria, digital registration, and the significance of completing e-KYC and regularly checking application status to ensure smooth receipt of future instalments.
