Shillong, Nov 14: The Meghalaya High Court has taken up a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the court’s intervention into the proposed demolition of the iconic Circuit House in Laban.
A division bench of Justice Hamarsan S Thangkhiew and Justice B Bhattacharjee said the court has received a letter expressing concern with the proposal to demolish the building, also known as ‘Bidhan Bhavan’ or ‘Roy Villah’.
The court said the building is considered a heritage structure of significant historical value.
During the hearing, Advocate General Amit Kumar sought a week’s time to file an affidavit on the matter.
Senior counsel S. Chakrawarty has consented to assist the court as Amicus Curiae in the matter.
The next hearing in the matter has been fixed on November 27, 2025.
