Shillong, Nov 13: The Hynñiewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) has sent a second reminder to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for an update on actions taken regarding long-pending border issues, particularly concerning Block 1 and 2.
HBDRF chairman Chandame Sugnoh expressed disappointment over the lack of official response from the government despite multiple submissions and meetings.
The forum had earlier raised concerns over the Socheng Amreng Border Development Committee’s demand for land registration and re-establishment of an entry tax gate at Khanduli village, which is seen as an attempt to encroach on Meghalaya’s territory.
The HBDRF has urged the government to respond within two weeks, citing socio-political and developmental implications for the affected border areas and indigenous communities.
The governments of Meghalaya and Assam have been engaged in talks to resolve their decades-long border dispute, with some progress made, though further negotiations have been stalled for one reason or another for a couple of years now.
