Shillong, Nov 12: The State Transport Authority has given 30 days from Monday for all taxis, autorickshaws and buses to comply with a directive from the Transport Department to display details of drivers and conductors of these vehicles.
The department had issued a notification to this effect on September 23. Under this notification all vehicle permit holders of taxis, autorickshaws, buses operating on fixed routes, national permit passenger vehicles, tourist permit vehicles and school/educational institute transport vehicles must ensure that the information is clearly displayed within the vehicle.
The information has to include the driver’s and/or conductor’s name, driving licence number, contact details and permanent address and be displayed in English and one local language on the dashboard or rear of the front seat for passenger visibility.
“This measure is intended to enhance transparency, accountability and protection for passengers,” the Secretary of the State Transport Authority said. All existing permit holders must comply within 30 days from the issuance of the notice, which was on Monda
