Shillong, Nov 11: Vipin Raghuvanshi testified in his brother Raja Rajaghuvanshi’s murder case at the Sessions Court as the first witness.
The prosecution stated it has “a watertight case” against the accused. Vipin’s cross-examination took about an hour and a half, but it wasn’t completed, and he’ll return to court on November 26.
“I was examined for about an hour and a half during the hearing today and will return to Shillong on November 26 for the next hearing to complete the examination,” Vipin said.
Special Public Prosecutor KC Gautam said the examination couldn’t be finished due to time constraints.
“We will cross-examine the witnesses again and all the other witnesses named in the charge sheet would also be similarly examined,” Gautam said.
The prosecution plans to examine 90 witnesses, and out-of-town witnesses might be examined via video conferencing. Gautam is confident the trial will wrap up quickly, stating, “Basically, it is a watertight case.”
The accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, including the victim’s wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Akash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi, have been charged with murder, destruction or concealment of evidence, and criminal conspiracy. They have all pleaded not guilty.
The police are awaiting a forensic report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad, after which they will file a second charge sheet. During the investigation, they recovered items like a blood-stained raincoat, machetes, and clothes, which were sent for analysis.
Raja Raghuvanshi was allegedly killed during a honeymoon trip, and his body was dumped into a gorge in Sohra. His body was recovered on June 2.
