Khliehriat, Nov 6: The East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has warned residents and business setups against discharging household and commercial wastewater directly onto National Highway-6.
In a notice issued today, the District Magistrate said such unauthorised discharge has caused frequent damage to the main carriageway and poses risks to public health and safety.
Identified defaulters are required to stop discharging wastewater onto the highway immediately and construct a proper drainage system or sullage disposal system within their premises at their own cost, the notice said.
The District said that such activities will no longer be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable under the National Highway Act, 1956 and other relevant laws.
