Shillong, Oct 29: Although there have been rumours that he would be dumped by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Meghalaya Congress president Vincent H Pala today received the public support of the party headquarters.
AICC secretary and party member in charge of Meghalaya, A Chellakumar, said that there is “no vacancy” in the state unit’s top echelon.
“Vincent Pala is our president, a loyal and hardworking Congress leader. The return of leaders like Zenith (Sangma) is proof of the confidence in his leadership,” he stated.
The Congress currently has zero MLAs in the Assembly and was wiped out from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council in elections earlier this year. The party’s ailing health in Meghalaya has partly been blamed on Pala, who went on to lose his parliamentary seat in the 2024 general election.
Nevertheless, Chellakumar expressed confidence that the Congress would perform strongly in upcoming elections.
“We will rejuvenate the organisation and win the 2028 Assembly polls. We are also confident of victory in next year’s GHADC elections,” he said.
