Shillong, Oct 3: A person suspected to be a cattle thief was found dead near a shed at Mylliem Mawwan.
Sources said repeated livestock theft incidents prompted cattle owners to electrify their farm for security reasons from October 1.
The intention behind electrifying the shed remains unclear – whether it was to deter thieves by lighting up the area or to trap potential intruders.
However, on the morning of October 2 a suspected thief’s body was discovered near the cowshed, with speculation that the man was electrocuted.
The cowshed’s distance from the owner’s residence makes it uncertain when the suspected thief came into contact with the electricity.
The suspect was later identified as a resident of Laitlyngkot. However his identity could not be confirmed till the filing of this report.
Livestock theft is a growing concern in the area. There are recent reports that cattle are being smuggled into Bangladesh.
According to reports, trucks carrying cattle move towards Dawki, Pynursla, and Balat once the sun sets.
