Shillong, Sep 22: World Rabies Week is being observed in East Jaintia Hills district under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Office of the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO).
The week-long programme, which began today till September 27, aims to raise awareness about rabies prevention and control, with a focus on high-risk areas.
A public rally will be held on September 26, starting from Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, via NH-6.
The observance emphasizes that rabies is a deadly but 100 per cent preventable disease and to seek public support to eliminate rabies. The public are urged to vaccinate their pets regularly, avoid contact with stray or wild animals, wash animal bites immediately, and seek medical care.
