Shillong, Sep 18: William Carey University, Meghalaya, held its fifth convocation on Tuesday, marking a proud milestone for graduating students and their families.
The ceremony commenced with the academic procession, lighting of the lamp, prayer, and the state anthem, followed by the formal opening announcement of the convocation by Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anand Kumar Gupta.
The convocation address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) S. M. Sungoh, Chairperson, State Education Commission who congratulated all the successful candidates and wished them the very best in their future endeavours. Degrees were conferred upon students of Ph.D., Postgraduate and Undergraduate programmes, along with awards of appreciation for outstanding achievers.
The university also paid a heartfelt tribute to former Chief Minister Donwa Dethwelson Lapang, who passed away recently.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Soma Bhowmick highlighted his invaluable contribution to the state of Meghalaya and recalled his association with William Carey University, describing him as a leader whose vision and service continue to inspire.
