Shillong, Sep 8: Newly elected Gambegre MLA Mehtab Chandee Agitok Sangma, made her first appearance in the house on Monday during the first day of the autumn session.
Mehtab is also the wife of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
She won the Gambegre by-election on November 27 last year after the seat fell vacant when Saleng A. Sangma decided to contest the Lok Sabha election, and also won.
Though she had already taken oath as an MLA, she could not attend the previous session as she was expecting her child.
Mehtab said she felt privileged and honoured to be part of the Assembly. “I feel honoured to be a woman in this august House, and I hope my presence inspires others to step into politics,” she told reporters.
