Shillong, Sep 4: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is seeking for a road to be named for his late father, Purno A Sangma, a former Meghalaya CM, Lok Sabha Speaker and MP, in New Delhi.
Conrad met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi today to discuss this and three other topics.
The request in honour of his father comes just days after what would have been Purno’s 78th birthday. Purno died in 2016 at the age of 68.
The other three subjects were far more important to ordinary Meghalayans. They were for a separate civil service and police cadre for Meghalaya, which is currently under a joint cadre with Assam; inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution; and implementation of the Inner Line Permit in Meghalaya.
