Shillong, Sep 2: Around two weeks after the purported incident regarding the alleged jabbing of a syringe into a girl in the city by motorbike-borne miscreants, East Khasi Hills police now say that the incident did not occur as was reported in the FIR.
According to the original complaint, the minor was in the Jaiaw neighbourhood near the Bible Society of India office when two unidentified bike-borne persons wearing helmets jabbed a needle into the child’s shoulder before speeding off. Such an incident sparked anxiety in the general public, with many fearing that the assailants were involved in drugs.
In a press release today, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said that, after a full and thorough investigation, police have “conclusively established” that the alleged incident “did not occur as stated in the FIR.”
Syiem, however, did not elaborate on what, if anything, in the FIR was accurate, or why the incident was fabricated.
He did say, though, that all relevant evidence was examined and a statement duly recorded before the court. A final report into the matter will be submitted before the competent court.
