Shillong, Sep 2: The Department of Ophthalmology at NEIGRIHMS organised a Continued Medical Education (CME) programme here on August 29.
The academic event was held with the objective of updating eye specialists in Meghalaya about the latest developments in the field of ophthalmology.
Several ophthalmologists – resident doctors, postgraduate students and optometrists – from Shillong, Nongpoh and nearby regions attended the programme.
Dr Tanie Natung, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, led the academic session.
The CME featured talks and case presentations by leading ophthalmologists from the region, highlighting modern surgical techniques for the treatment of strabismus (crossed eyes) and cataract and also focused on recent advancements in ophthalmic drugs and delivery systems.
Key speakers included Dr Natung, Dr Batriti Wallang and Dr Wakaru Shullai from Mehra-Ki Eyecare and Dr Hiranmoyee Das from Nazareth Hospital. Doctors from Shillong and Nongpoh Civil Hospitals, Bansara Eye Care, Army and Assam Rifles Hospitals and private practitioners of the region attended the CME.
NEIGRIHMS Director Dr Nalin Mehta urged all the participants to pursue lifelong learning in the dynamic field of eye care. Noting the department’s ability to take a leadership role in this area Dr Mehta offered the expertise of NEIGRIHMS to support capacity building programmes for the eye care professionals in the region.
