Shillong, Sep 1: Meghalaya police have registered a case of unnatural death after Jonathan Rynjah, a resident of Mawlai, was found dead inside a train toilet at Palakkad railway station in Kerala.
The tragic news reached Rynjah’s parents on Friday after Kerala Railway Police informed them about the incident. According to police, the toilet door was locked from the inside and officials had to break it open to recover the body. The remains were taken to the district hospital where a post-mortem examination was conducted on Sunday. The report is still awaited.
The body was expected to arrive in Shillong tonight.
Speaking to reporters, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said it is premature to suspect foul play. “Only after the post-mortem reports are out will we be able to ascertain and get a clearer picture,” he stated.
Rynjah worked in Kerala but returned home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He had recently returned there in search of employment when the incident occurred.
