Shillong, Sep 1: The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) today met the Director of Health Services, East Khasi Hills District, to seek an update on the renovation and upgradation of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) in the War Jaintia area.
This was a follow-up letter to their previous communication on July 2, 2024.
HYC leader Y Shylla expressed concern over the lack of progress in addressing the urgent need for healthcare infrastructure in the region including Dawki, Pdengshakhap, Jarain, Padu and Nontalang.
The HYC specifically sought information on upgradation of Padu dispensary to a PHC, sanction and repair work for dispensaries and CHCs, filling of medical staff vacancies, provision of essential infrastructure such as ambulance services, water supply, laboratory facilities, and storage, allocation of necessary funding for these health centres.
The HYC has urged the health directorate to prioritise the issues, citing the significant hardships faced by residents due to inadequate medical infrastructure. The council has sought a prompt response and positive intervention from the authorities.
Shylla said that the DHS has assured to look into the matter.
