Shillong, Sep 1: More than 24 hours after he disappeared into the Sohiong River, the body of 16-year-old Dameshwa Thabah was recovered following a relentless search by local residents, police teams, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Search and Rescue Team (SRT) of the Fire and Emergency Services (FES) on Monday.
According to reports, the boy was playing with his friends in a school compound near the river on Sunday afternoon.
Thabah had recently received a ball as a birthday gift and, while playing with his friends, the ball fell into the river. Thabah went to retrieve it and was swept away by the strong current.
As soon as the incident occurred, residents and rescue teams began searching for the boy. His body was finally recovered on Monday at around 4:30pm and the body was then taken to his home.
