Shillong, Aug 31: Nongthymmai Sports & Cultural Club, as part of the celebration of National Sports Day 2025 in memory of Indian hockey star Dhyan Chand, organised a Fit Nongthymmai Movement 2025 event derived from the Fit India Movement launched by the central government in 2019.
Saturday’s programme was also aimed at working together to promote health in society.
The event was begun by a running race by local MDC Winston Tony Lyngdoh. Before the race, the Fit India pledge was taken. In his speech, Lyngdoh congratulated the sports club for organising the event and expressed pleasure to see children and elderly women taking part. Speeches were also delivered by Physical Training Instructor Kyrshan Marbaniang and long distance running star Darishisha Iangjuh.
Also present on the occasion was Lawjynriew Rangbah Shnong SB Kharshandi, who encouraged the participants to participate in sports to avoid diseases and to be healthy.
The Fit Nongthymmai Movement was attended by school children, children, young men and women as well as the elders of Nongthymmai. The club also expressed its gratitude to the Nongthymmai Urban Health Centre for medical and safety assistance, the Shillong Traffic Police for the traffic control, volunteers and Seng Samla Shnong Nongshilliang, Dum Dum, Nongkhyriem, Rangbah Dong Jyllishop and others.
