Shillong, Aug 24: Opposition MDCs from the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), led by the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, Dr Mukul Sangma, today attended a prayer service today with regards to the struggling Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
The event was organised by the Tura-based Church Leaders’ Forum.
The prayer service was held to pray for good governance, transparency and the effective functioning of the GHADC for the people of Garo Hills. The event brought together political leaders and the community to collectively seek guidance and a positive future for the region.
The GHADC has been under great financial strain with an ongoing protest by employees over the severe delay in the payment of their wages. All told, council employees are now owed the equivalent of 43 months’ worth of pay.
