Shillong, Aug 11: East Khasi Hills will be under an orange weather alert on Tuesday as heavy rain is expected over the district.
All 11 other districts in the state will be under a lower yellow alert, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Weather forecasts are fluid, however, and the IMD may change its advice when it issues a new update tomorrow.
In the 24 hours to 8:30am today, the southern slopes of East Khasi Hills continued to receive the bulk of the rain falling on Meghalaya, with Mawsynram, Sohra and Pynursla all reporting between 130mm and 204mm of precipitation. Shella was in the 70-130mm band.
Williamnagar in East Garo Hills, Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills and Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills received something in the range of 40mm to 70mm of rainfall.
