Editor,
I was pleased to see that the former Chief Minister of Meghalaya has open up his mouth through the Shillong media about the seriousness of prolonged financial mess in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council till it has reached the point of inability to clear the salaries of its 1200 employees which has piled up to as many as 43 months now amounting to a little more than Rs.270 crore. We can very well imagine the plight of the employees that they had to endure and the impact it has on their families. The Conrad Sangma led Government should have had the human touch by finding out ways and means by advancing at least twelve months’ salary to the GHADC to ease the over-stressed plight of the employees who are our fellow human beings of Garo Hills. This is the right way forward though it may not be easy but it is a pittance compared to many urgent set aside expenditures on flimsy purposes.
Now on the future plight of the TMC and himself Dr. Sangma and was candid by saying that he cannot comment much and let the future take care of itself. He was also candid by expressing that he has no regret at all by leaving the INC. The question that many have is whether he and three others will stick to TMC or switch over to the NPP or BJP or what options are left? For these he has already replied that let the future take care of itself but he has no worries at all for options are many for people experienced and sharp like him. However, to remain in TMC, join NPP or BJP or VPP it is not likely. People like him really should have no worries at all. Many opportunities are opened to him not only in politics.
