Discipline and professionalism are part and parcel of uniform service, said Commandant General of Home Guards and Director of Civil Defence AR Mawthoh said.
Addressing the passing out parade of the 4th Basic Course of Guardsman today at Central Training Institute of Civil Defence & Home Guards parade ground in Mawdiangdiang he said that men in uniform should be polite but firm.
“In the uniform service, we need to be polite but firm, meaning we should be firm while carrying out our lawful duties and simultaneously be polite while dealing with people without compromising on our principles,” Mawthoh said.
Congratulating the new guardsmen who completed a nine-month long basic training Mawthoh said that “Basic training is aimed to prepare you mentally and physically to face the challenges that you will encounter in your service career. This indeed will be the most memorable moment in your career.”
He also advised the new guardsmen that knowledge is a never ending process; therefore they should be inquisitive and never hesitate to approach their seniors with questions to clear their doubts in their daily work.
Altogether 88 guardsmen consisting of 75 men and 13 women passed the basic training. Apart from physical training, weapons training, foot and arms drill, the guardsmen were also trained on Civil Defence and Disaster Management subject as well.
Commandant of the institute, WH Khongsngi said that the COVID-19 Pandemic had posed hardship in conduct of training, but the institute took it as a challenge keeping in mind the safety and welfare of each trainee, staff and officer and conducted the training successfully.
At the ceremony, prizes were also distributed to the recruit guardsman who excelled in various subjects and areas of training. Banshemlad Kharbani was adjudged the all round best recruit guardsman, Mebanialam Langstang (best in drill), Eshan Warjri (best in home guards), Lambun Muksor (best in musketry), Herolin Kharmyndai (best in civil defence) and Dominick Richard Lyngdoh (best in PT)
The parade also witnessed a display on musketry and Unarmed Combat (UAC) sparring.
