The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), in partnership with Don Bosco Tech Society (DBTech), has achieved a major milestone in its skilling efforts, recording an exceptional 84.4 per cent placement rate under its hospitality training initiative.
Of the 135 trainees who completed certification in two high-demand trades, 114 have secured employment within three months—marking a significant stride in youth empowerment and workforce readiness in the state.
According to the MSSDS, the programme trained 60 candidates as Food & Beverage Service Associates at the Shillong Centre, with 51 already placed in restaurants, hotels, and resorts, reflecting an 85 per cent placement rate. At the Mawkasiang Centre, 75 youth were certified as Housekeeping Trainees, of whom 63 have been successfully placed, resulting in an 84 per cent placement rate.
“Most of these placements are outside the state, with graduates joining reputed hospitality institutions and hotels across India, giving them national exposure and wider opportunities for career growth,” an official statement said.
The training model combined classroom sessions with hands-on apprenticeship tailored to industry requirements. F&B trainees were trained in beverage service, customer interaction, and hygiene practices, while the housekeeping batch focused on sanitation protocols, inventory systems, and environmentally sustainable practices. Industry-aligned content and active collaboration with leading employers helped ensure immediate job-readiness and high employability.
“What is equally notable is that the remaining 15 per cent of trainees who are currently not placed had either declined offers due to personal reasons or chosen to pursue other avenues,” it said, adding, “Had all candidates accepted the offers made to them, the placement rate would have reached 100 per cent.”
