Eight schools have been selected to represent the state at the National Level Children Science Congress to be held next month.
In the junior category, the schools are St Francis De Sales, Umwahlang, West Khasi Hills, Mawrong Government UPS, Ri Bhoi and Sacred Heart HS School, Williamnagar.
Jirang Government HS School, Rev.JJM Nichols-Roy Secondary School, North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Shillong Public School and St Dominic Savio Secondary School, South West Garo Hills district will represent the state in the senior category.
These schools were selected based on their projects on the theme, “Understanding Ecosystem for Health and Wellbeing” presented at the two-day state level Children Science Congress held at Shillong College that concluded today.
Jointly organised by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya and Science Departments, Shillong College the programme was organised as part of the 31st National Children’s Science Congress as well as one of the events to mark the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Teaching Science in Shillong College.
Director of the Directorate of School Education and Literacy Swapnil Tembe in his speech encouraged all the participants that participation is more important than winning.
Meanwhile, Hanika Barim of Mynken Christian HS School, Bhoirymbong, Jessica Marwein of St. Ferrando Sec. School, Sawsymper and Albin L Marshillong of St. Joseph HS School, Nongkasen were also felicitated with cash prize and a memento.
These students were in the top 20 merit list of MBOSE SSLC examination this year and had enrolled in the free crash tuition in Mathematics and Science organized by SCSTE at 130 centres across the states.
