Seventy-nine sailors from across the country have converged at the scenic Umiam Lake to compete during the third North East Regatta.
The event, which began on Saturday till May 29, aims to promote water sports, foster athleticism, and develop Umiam Lake as a premier watersports destination.
Organized by the Umiam Sailing Club (USC) in association with the Yatching Association of India (YAI) and supported by the State Tourism Department, this six-day event promises exhilarating competitive sailing and youth development.
The sailors from nine clubs will compete in five boat classes—Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, 420, and 29er—to showcase their skills and teamwork.
Set against the scenic Umiam Lake, the regatta will offer a dynamic platform for sailors to build their skills and compete fiercely. Spectators can expect thrilling races, vibrant camaraderie, and a celebration of sailing in one of India’s most picturesque locations, the department said.
