IIM Shillong’s TEDx event this year brought together seven speakers who fit the theme ‘Solitude to Solidarity: The Evolution and Significance of Communities.’
IIM Shillong has a long-standing tradition of organising TED talks. In 2014 an IIM Shillong student secured a scholarship to attend the prestigious TEDGlobal Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, setting the stage for the institution’s continued engagement with TED.
IIM Shillong hosted TEDx, a platform where the power of ideas met the enthusiasm of young, brilliant minds. This year’s event delved into the captivating exploration of the pivotal role that communities play in shaping society, fostering innovation and promoting resilience.
The speakers were Sunita Bhuyan, an Indian violinist, HR professional, music maestro, consultant and teacher, who instills wellness, leadership, and change through the medium of music; AVM Kaushik Chatterjee, a Principal Medical Officer at the Indian Air Force’s Eastern Air Command, who is also a psychiatrist, researcher and professor; Subhajit Mukherjee, an environmentalist credited with driving the mass movement of tree plantation in and around Mumbai that has led to the planting of over 63,000 trees; Swasti Saraogi, a sustainability strategy expert currently working as a Growth Lead at Robin Hood Army where she leads several initiatives aimed at reducing hunger and poverty in India; Shyamal Datta, a photographer recognised among the 101 World’s Best Photographers at the International Portrait Photography Award 2023; Atsi Jamir, the founder and owner of Farmer Square Café in Nagaland, an eco-friendly, pristine environment; and Harsh Pamnani, a business storyteller, branding consultant and author of two best-selling books.
TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
This year’s TEDx IIM Shillong event continued the tradition of sparking innovation, inspiring change, and leaving audiences invigorated with a renewed sense of purpose, a release said today. “It reinforces IIM Shillong’s position as a place where ideas are not only born but also celebrated and shared.”
