Seven men suspected of being behind an armed robbery at two stone crusher units in in Umduba and Umnowe Killing in Ri Bhoi district have been arrested by police, it was informed today.
The accused are Kandil Marak, Rechi Momin, Wilsh Marak, Robert Momin, Marus Marak, Bimod Marak, and Collin Marak, all from Umbuda village.
Police also recovered arms used in the commission of the robberies, which included a country-made rifle, two country pistols, four packets of gunpowder, air gun, 12 triggering caps, small red cloth for muzzle loading of gunpowder, nine camouflage t-shirts, nine camouflage pants, 10 black scarves, eight pairs of camouflage/jungle boots, three carry bags of Apollo shoes, one white sack and a black bag.
Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad said the arrest was made by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to assist investigation into the two crimes. He said the team conducted an extensive and meticulous inquiry, employing various investigative techniques, including forensic analysis and data examination, to gather crucial evidence and identify the culprits.
The stone crusher unit at Umbuda was looted with Rs 85, 400 on May 22 and Rs 1.90 lakh from a unit at Umnowe Killing on July 11, 2023.
The SP has urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to ensure the safety and security of the community.
