A two-day training programme on income generating activities for self-help groups (SHGs) in urban areas was organised by the Meghalaya Social Development Society (MSDS).
The programme was held on Friday and Saturday here. It was funded by the office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner through the District Planning Officer under the Voluntary Action Fund.
The training began with an inaugural address by Eva Nongrum, Community Organizer of the Shillong Municipal Board. About 30 SHG members took part in the programme, which included six staff of the KJP Assembly who look after different projects of the church.
The first day of the training included mushroom cultivation, which included theory and practicals and was led by Donbok P Shadap, Master Trainer and Field Coordinator at MSDS. The topic ‘Best of Wastes’ was taken up by Markynti Thangkhiew, entrepreneur and member of Lamlynti SHG, Jail Road.
The second day of the training was on food processing, which included juice and jam making, credit and bank linkage, packaging, labeling and online FSSAI application.
Six SHGs received the certificate of registration, namely Trei minot SHG, Mawprem; Kiewshaphrang SHG, Mawprem; Kyntiewlang SHG, Mawlai; Kyrmenlang SHG, Jaiaw; Lamlynti SHG, Jail Road; and Umpohliew Jingkyrmen, Nongthymmai.
