A five-year-old child died after being run over by a car at 19th Mile, Ri-Bhoi, on Sunday afternoon.
The car in question was a government-owned vehicle, bearing the licence plate ML 01 7703.
The incident occurred at around 1pm when the car was proceeding towards Guwahati from Shillong. Just after the highway toll gate the car, driven by one Shon Basar, struck the boy as he was crossing the road, resulting in him sustaining severe head injuries.
The victim was rushed to Byrnihat Primary Health Centre but was transferred to Bethany Hospital in Nongpoh on account of the severity of his injuries he passed away.
