The Garo Hills unit of the All Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association met Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma at the Secretariat here today.
The 4th teachers are pushing for regularisation and the higher pay that would come with it.
There are 1,521 4th teachers in Meghalaya each receiving Rs 18,000 per month in salary. Though this was increased by 50 percent from Rs 12,000 just two years ago, the teachers complain that their new salary is still lower than that of their colleagues despite them all doing the same work.
The delegation also requested the minister for a special Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) for all categories of teachers.
