Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has said that the unidentified groups of bikers responsible for the attack on two student interns from Kerala will be arrested in the next 24-48 hours.
Condemning the Friday attack, Rymbui said since FIR was lodged police are investigating into the case.
When reporters referred to similar incidents in the past, the Home Minister claimed that many arrests were made and charge sheeted.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police LR Bishnoi informed that the police is currently analysing CCTV footages. Once the youth are identified necessary actions will be taken, he added.
Urging youth to refrain from such acts he said, “If there are any concerns they should come forward and speak instead of resorting to violence.”
Yesterday a gang of motorbike riding men launched an unprovoked attack on two social work students from Kerala in Jaiaw neighbourhood while they were having lunch in a restaurant and a traffic police constable on duty at Mawlai as well as food delivery boy at Mahari Pump here.
Rejaz M Sydeek and Sarath S Thambi, master students from the Central University in Kerala who were interning here in Shillong, were assaulted by a group of 30 bikers. They were saved by the waiter, a receptionist and a doctor from a nearby hospital (possibly H Gordon Roberts Hospital).
According to police, the constable was assaulted by a group of bike-borne boys when they were intercepted for not wearing helmets at SB Khongwir Junction in Mawlai while a delivery boy for Swiggy was assault when he was on his way to Jaiaw Langsning to make a delivery.
