Four Muay Thai athletes from Meghalaya will represent the country at the Muay Thai World Championship which will be held at Abu Dhabi (UAE) from May 26 to June 4, 2022.
Pynnehbor Mylliemngap, Blaseibok Kharbuli, Mightyson Nonglang and Skhemborlang Marwein. Referee and judge, Angelus Sun and Pynsuklang Sumer will also be part of the team.
The four were selected from the National Muay Thai Championship which was held in Kuman Lampak, Imphal Manipur from December 16 to 19, 2021, Sun who is also the president of Muay Thai Association Meghalaya informed.
Informing that the team requires Rs 9.69 lakh to attend the championship and had sought help from minister of sports, Banteidor Lyngdoh and the Governor, Sun also appealed for contribution and support from the government, individuals or businessman, who want to promote sports and help the athletes.
Muay Thai has recently been certified as an Olympic Sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
The championship will be organised by the International Federation of Muay Thai Association (IFMA).
