Shillong, Sep 5: The court in South Garo Hills convicted and sentenced four Bangladeshis to two years imprisonment for illegal entry into the country and illegal stay.
In the first case, the convicts Nazir Miah, Shuyal Miah and Faysal Miah were sent to jail and fined Rs. 20.000 each and another two months imprisonment in default of payment.
A case under U/S 14 A(b) Foreigners Act.1946 was registered against the three at Gasuapara Police Station.
South Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Shailender Bamaniya said the Investigation was done meticulously by SI Rush T Sangma wherein the chargesheet was filed on May 6, 2025.
In another case lodged at Baghmara Police Station under the Act, one Hafikul Islam was sentenced to jail and fined Rs 10,000. The court of Febroneous Silkam Sangma, Session Judge said in case of default of payment the convict will undergo another two months imprisonment.
The case against Islam was investigated and chargesheeted on May 31, 2025 by SI Dament Ch Sangma.
Meanwhile, the court of S.P.D Sangma, Chief Judicial Magistrate, South Garo Hills District found one Kensibirth G Marak guilty of theft.
The court sentenced the man to one year simple imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 with an additional simple imprisonment of four months in default of fine.
