A three year old from South Garo Hills district became the latest victims of Covid–19 despite the best medical efforts being put in to resuscitate him.
According to the administration, the three year old was tested for the virus and developed complications. The child was referred to the Tura Civil Hospital yesterday, but could not survive.
Earlier last month, another three year old from East Garo Hills district had also lost his life to the disease despite efforts being made by the various administrations to push vaccinations through.
Yesterday a man in his 30s and another in his 20s succumbed to the disease where in both cases; the victims had not been vaccinated.
Vaccination hesitancy is now being stated as one of the big reasons for the reasons why cases continue to rise despite the efforts put in by various administrations. On July 22, only about 840 people were vaccinated in South Garo Hills despite the efforts and the various forms of lockdowns in place.
In South Garo Hills district, of a population of over 1.6 lakhs, only about 30000 have been administered vaccine doses. The number for the entire Garo Hills stands at about 3.5 lakhs in a population over 13 lakhs.
