Three shops were gutted after a massive fire broke out in the Hawakhana locality of the town of Tura this afternoon.
The incident took place just before noon before Fire and Emergency Services helped to extinguish the flames that engulfed the three shops adjacent to each other.
No estimation of losses sustained is currently available though the intensity of the fire was such that it could be seen from far away.
While the fire was burning, people witnessed another blast from the same place though it could be a LPG gas cylinder which caused the damage.
“The fire has been extinguished and at least three shops have been gutted. An investigation into what caused the fire is currently on,” West Garo Hills superintendent of police, VIvekanand Singh said.
The SP confirmed that there were no casualties reported during the incident.
