A special cell within the police arrested three suspected motorbike thieves in the 101 Area, authorities informed today.
The three men – Timus Warbah (30), Babar Mawblei (26) and Synraplang Makri (23) – were caught red-handed, police said. All three suspects hail from Jirang in Ri-Bhoi.
They would, according to the police, travel around the city in an Alto scouting for bikes parked on the side of the road. This car was seized as evidence and police also recovered a KTM bike from their possession that had been stolen early yesterday morning in the Malki area.
Furthermore, two persons suspected of helping hand over the stolen two-wheelers to buyers in Bangladesh were also arrested. The pair has been identified as Meaibor Kharryjja (26) and Bakordor Rapmai (24) from Sohlap Shella and Jatap Shella respectively.
The arrested persons have been behind several bike thefts in the city in recent times, the police added.
