In a bid to preserve the aquatic species members of the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation, Ri Bhoi Unit in collaboration with the office of the district Superintendent of Fisheries released more than 25,000 fish fingerlings at Umtrew pond today.
Unit secretary, Keny Nongrum said the release of fish fingerlings is one way to conserve nature and its aquatic life. He urged people of Umtrew to look after the pond and protect the fishes by ensuring no poisonous matters are thrown in it.
Meanwhile an awareness program was organized for villagers on how to preserve the finglerlings.
Superintendent of Fisheries, Precious Suting, village headmen B Diengdoh, and Secretary Seng Longkmie Umtrew, Bansara Rumnong also took part in the programme.
