Shillong, Jul 10: The Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong, in association with Chowdhury Pharmacy, organised a free health screening programme titled ‘Know Your Numbers’ today at the pharmacy premises in Police Bazar.
Around 250 people benefitted through free blood pressure, weight and random blood sugar screenings, promoting the importance of preventive healthcare and early detection of lifestyle-related diseases.
Twenty per cent (53) of the participants were found to have one or more lifestyle-related health conditions. Twenty-seven were overweight, 10 had hypertension, seven had hypertension and were overweight, five had diabetes with hypertension and four diabetes alone.
Most participants were in the 40–59 age group, while the oldest participants – a 75-year-old man and woman – recorded normal test results.
The initiative underscored the growing need for regular health check-ups and healthier lifestyle practices to prevent non-communicable diseases.
