The Khasi Students Union (KSU) today detained 24 suspected Bangladeshi nationals from Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills district.
The detainees were all men. The KSU said they were picked up after they were found to have entered the country from Maheshkhola, located along the Indo-Bangladesh border at around 1 pm.
The pressure group said all the detainees did not have any documents and were handed over to the Meghalaya Police in Ranikor.
Amid the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, it is important that the Border Security Force (BSF), the police and the district administration should ensure that the border is secured, the KSU said.
The pressure group also warned contractors against engaging workers from outside the state and said its members are vigilant of any illegal entry into the state.
