The Red Ribbon Club Youth Fest 2023 concluded at the Jaiñtia Eastern College in Khliehriat recently as part of the drive to promote awareness on HIV/AIDS control measures among the youth.
The two-day event saw the participation of 502 students from colleges and schools in East and West Jaiñtia Hills districts under the theme “Be Inspired, Own Your Future.” Besides, HIV/AIDS the festival also aims to create awareness on drug abuse, and unemployment, instilling hope and encouraging responsible behaviour among the youth.
East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal attended the inauguration of the festival. During his speech he urged youth to take charge of their future and make a positive impact in society.
The festival featured various activities, including the Abhivyakti – The Red Show (Drama) Competition, where students showcased their talents and creativity while spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS.
Shangpung College emerged the winner in the Abhivyakti competition.
To promote personality development and motivation, a special lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor of Don Bosco College, Sevendar Dkhar.
A 5-km marathon was held on the second day of the festival aimed to promote fitness and unity among the participants.
The Red Ribbon Club Quiz competition, which saw the participation of 15 teams, was won by the Jaintia Eastern College.
Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla attended the closing ceremony on July 29 wherein winners were given cash prize. The top performers will represent the two districts at the state level RRC events.
Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) Project Director, Dr. B. Decruse hoped that the festival will help to increase more knowledge about the danger of HIV/AIDS, STI and RTI.
