The Khasi Jaiñtia National Union (KJNU) today felicitated a youth for his act of bravery in rescuing an elderly man from drowning at Moosdai near Mukhla village in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
The youth is identified as Beholden Dkhar of Mukhla Mission.
As per the locals, the elderly man had gone to watch a fishing competition in Moosdai village on September 3 but accidently fell in the pond. Beholden rushed and jumped into the pond to help the elderly man.
The felicitation programme was also attended by member of the Chdoh Ri Jaiñtia Maya (CRJM) and Hynñiewtrep New Generation Movement at Thadlaskeiñ.
KJNU President Niman N Shadap said the youth has exhibited exemplary courage and did not hesitate before diving in the deep pond while many anglers watched helplessly. His selfless service would remain a source of inspiration for people, he added.
