The College of Community Science in Tura celebrated World Soil Day today on the theme ‘Soil and Water: A source of life’.
The programme was conducted with faculty and 28 farmers from Bolchugre, Gimbilgre and Sangsanggre present. It was hosted by Samborlang Wanniang, Assistant Professor, of the Multi Technology Testing Centre and Vocational Training Centre (MTTC-VTC).
A speech was given by the chief guest, Alva Vesta D Shira, Research Officer in the Department of Agriculture, on the importance of soil, care for the soil and the soil’s elemental nutrients which will help in growing healthy plants and ultimately nourish the human body.
As a part of celebration, inputs like Kashi series vegetables from ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi, Bhima-Shakti variety of onion seeds from ICAR-DOGR, Pune and vermicompost distribution was done under AICRP-WIA, Tura. A brief lecture on soil health was conducted by Chivandi D Momin, Scientific Officer in the Agriculture Department.
